Day 1: ARRIVAL IN ROME, WELCOME TO ROME 3D CINEMA; APERITIVO AND DINNER
Arrive at one of the Airports of Rome, both located about 40 minutes from the city centre. Our staff welcome you at the arrival and accompain you to your accommodation in the city centre of Rome with private taxi. Check in in the hotel Raffaello (or similar) or in an apartment selected by us in the very centre of Rome. Enjoy the movie “Welcome to Rome”, a 3d cinema, perfect introduction to understand better the history of this splendid city. Beautiful Squares, elegant Palaces and stunning Churches will welcome you in this ancient city. Enjoy also a guided Tour with local guide to see some highlights such as Spanish steps, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Venezia, Campo dei Fiori, Piazza Farnese and Piazza Trilussa at trastevere. Trastevere is one of the most authentic areas in Rome. Here we have a welcome Aperitif and a dinner in one of our favourite Trattorias Popi Popi (or similar). You taste some antipasti misti, and a plate of Pasta Cacio e Pepe and a quarter of liter of wine per person. Overnight in central apartment Rome.
Day 2: ANCIENT ROME GUIDED TOUR; DINNER IN A LOCAL TRATTORIA
Let’s meet near the Colosseum and let’s start the day with a typical Italian breakfast (cappuccino and croissant). Visit the Colosseum with a licensed Tour Guide. One of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, the Colosseum is the most spectacular monument of the city, symbol of the great Roman Empire. It is the most visited site in Italy. You skip the line with our prebooked tickets so you don’t need to spend many hours in a long line. Discover The Palatine Hill, where Rome was founded in 753 BC by legendary Romulus. The Guided tour continues in the Roman Forum, the Heart of the Political and Social Life of Ancient Rome. Thousands of people everyday come here to listen to the stories about the greatness of the Roman Celebrities: Augustus, Nero, Marc Anthony and of course Julius Caesar. Lunch in a cosy Pastabar to try one of the best carbonara in town in a trendy district called Monti, once it was the Suburra, the popular district of Rome where also Julius Cesar grew up. Free time in the afternoon with opportunity to get lost in the narrow streets of the Eternal City. You can visit the Vatican State on your own or you can book a tour with us: Vatican museums, Sistine chapel and St Peter s basilica. We meet again at 7 pm for a typical Roman dinner in a trattoria near San Giovanni called Romolo e Remo. This trattoria is out of the tourist streams and is a meeting point for local people. Try some antipasti, and a really Roman main course such as Abbacchio, Coda alla Vaccinara, Saltimbocca alla Romana served with seasonal vegetables. Overnight in Rome.
Day 3: BIKE TOUR ANCIENT ROME; TOUR: FOOD WINE AND HIDDEN SECRETS
We start the day with a typical Italian breakfast and later have one of the funniest experience in Rome: Bike Tour of ancient Rome. From the Colosseum we pass by some of the most interesting ruins of ancient Rome such as the Circus Maximus, the Capitol Hill, the theatre of Marcellus, la Bocca della verità and the piramide of Caio Cestio. Our Local Guide will share interesting stories when passing next to the Theatre of Marcellus built by the Emperor Augustus to honor his nephew; Glide around the Circus Maximus, the largest Stadium for public games ever built. The Circus is located in the Valley between two of the Rome’s Hills: the Palatine and the Aventine. The Capitoline Hill is a must-see with the imposing statue of emperor Marco Aurelio in the beautiful square designed by Michelangelo. Have a look at the Mouth of the Truth, an ancient marble mask that attracts visitors from all over the world because of the legend hidden behind it. We stop at the local market of Testaccio one of the best markets of Rome. We try 6 different Roman specialities such as porchetta, supplì, coppiette etc. We take our bikes again and drive up on the Aventine hill, where we stop to look at the secret keyhole and at the Giardino degli aranci, for one of the best views of Rome. End of the bike Tour near the Colosseum, where we leave our bikes and have a little siesta. We meet again our Guide in the afternoon to enjoy one of our best sellers: Food Wine and Hidden secrets of Rome. We visit some hidden corners of Rome such as the Jewish Ghetto, the elefant-obelisk, the turtle fountain and have an Italian Apericena with a Cold Cuts Board, some Italian delicacies, a cheese tasting and a wine tasting (6 food paired with 6 wines). We also have a Guided Tour of the Pantheon and of Piazza Navona. The first was the Temple of all Gods, classical Masterpiece for his Perfection and Harmony; the second was the Stadium of Domitian and today a very beautiful Square. Overnight in Rome.
Day 4: VISIT OF OSTIA ANTICA
Today we take the train to Ostia Antica, the Ancient Port of the Empire. Let’s have first breakfast at Eataly, a big shopping mall focused on Italian food. Here we try a good maritozzo and an espresso. The archeological Area is reachable with a 30 minutes ride with the train. Many of the buildings of Ostia Antica are still intact today. Visit Ostia Antica with an archeological Tour Guide to see the Highlights of Ostia Antica, the itinerary includes the Theatre, Apartments, Thermal Baths, the famous Piazzale delle Corporazioni with beautiful Floor Mosaics, the communal Latrines, the Laundries, a Roman Bakery, an Ancient Fireman Brigade and much more. Light lunch near the Castle of Ostia with local products sold directly from the farmers. Free afternoon. We meet again for dinner in the Jewish ghetto, where we eat at Sora Margherita, a local trattoria which is there since 1927. You cannot decide what to eat, but you eat what Sora Margherita has cooked for you. Overnight in Rome.
Day 5: Guided tour of Pompeii and Wine Tasting
After breakfast, leave the City of Rome and reach Pompeii on the shores of the Gulf of Naples. Pompeii was buried by the Eruption of the Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. A thick layer of volcanic ashes and lapilli preserved most of the buildings. Today we can see this magic Roman city as it was 2000 years ago. A Local Licensed Guide will invite you to enter in a Thermopolium to discover what Romans used to eat. Visit the wonderful Forum from which you have an impressive view of the Vesuvius. After the visit of Pompeii you will have Lunch at the slopes of the Mount Vesuvius. Here you will be tasting typical local products such as the small tomatoes produced on the Vesuvius, bruschetta, cold cuts, wine and at the end Limoncello. Return back to Rome by train. Free dinner and overnight in Rome.
